PG County Tree Programs

Prince George’s (PG) County Department of the Environment (DoE) has several programs to assist residents with planting new trees in public spaces in our local communities. This includes the County’s 3 major public tree planting programs—Arbor Day Every Day Program, Rain Check Rebate Program, and the Tree ReLeaf Program. Program staff from PG County’s Department of the Environment will provide technical support and programmatic assistance to communities to successfully apply for any of these programs. The first step is to complete a quick online form indicating your program of interest. Once we receive your form, a GHEP staff will put you in touch with a DOE staff who is responsible for the program.

Arbor Day Every Day Program: provides funds for planting native trees in schoolyards. Through this program, Arbor Day Every Day provides free trees for schools to plant and maintain on school grounds. This program educates students on the everyday importance of native trees, empowers them to enhance their community and provides funds for planting projects.

Tree ReLeaf Program: provides funds to civic, neighborhood, community and homeowner organizations, libraries and local municipalities in Prince George’s  (PG) County, Maryland, to plant native trees and shrubs in public or common areas. The program also provides a hands-on opportunity for County residents to learn how to properly plant and care for trees and shrubs in common areas.

Under the program, community members receive assistance in selecting tree planting locations and developing a tree planting plan and post-planting maintenance schedule. Upon completion of services, the applicants receive reimbursement for applicable expenditures up to the amount permitted by the program.
